Delta County is situated on the northern shore of Lake Michigan and includes 2 waterfront cities (Escanaba and Gladstone) and 14 unincorporated communities.   Delta County has a strong manufacturing base, averaging nearly 20%.  The county has 211 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, 514 miles of rivers / streams, nearly 6,000 acres of inland lakes and ponds, and nearly 310,000 acres of public recreational land; and a land area of 1,170 square miles.   Other facts / features include:

  • Six -18 hole golf courses, 4 of which are ranked amongst top 15 in the Upper Peninsula, plus three-9 hole courses in the county. 
  • Major highways include US-2, US-41, M-35, M-69, and M-183
  • 3 deep-water ports (in Escanaba, Gladstone, and Wells, MI)

  • Upper Peninsula State Fair held each year in mid-August in Escanaba, and the fairground is also home to the Upper Peninsula International Raceway.   The fairgrounds also hosts several trade shows throughout the year.

    The Bays de Noc (Lake Michigan) are carefully managed and protected, and have emerged as one of the best fresh water fishing locations in the United States.  Professional fishing tournaments such as Cabela's Master Walleye Circuit, the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail, the FLW Walleye League Champioinships, the FLW Bass Series and B.A.S.S. Tournament have held professional competitions on the Bays.
